The growth and success of Airtel Money continues to rise in Malawi and beyond. Leading mobile telecommunications operator Airtel Malawi has now added extra muscle to ‘Mr Money’ by introducing a cross-border money transfer service for its Airtel Money mobile banking service.

With the new service, Airtel Money customers in the country can now transfer cash, facilitate remittances and affordably conduct regional trade via Airtel Money’s massive distribution network.
Breaking the news at a media conference in Lilongwe, Airtel’s Chief Commercial Officer, Charles Kamoto said that the cross border money transfer service will offer people convenience instantly.
“We are offering convenient and affordable cross-border transactions through Airtel Money’s robust and ubiquitous network. As a company, we are committed to deepening financial inclusion, creating cashless ecosystems and regional integration in Africa and beyond,” said Kamoto.
He then commended the Reserve Bank of Malawi for its unwavering support for this initiative and commitment towards ensuring the long term success of the service.
This news comes hot on the heels after Airtel recently disclosed that its Airtel Money product has registered over 1 million users in addition to unveiling a partnership with Ding which now enables Airtel subscribers to recharge their phones from across the world.
Meanwhile, Malawi joins four other African countries – Niger, Zambia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the borderless Airtel Money transactions’ crusade.
With over 36 million customer wallets in 17 countries, Airtel Money is at the forefront of efforts to create entire cashless payments ecosystems, deepen financial inclusion and reduce transaction costs across Africa.
