The bags of maize flour, each weighing 10 kgs were given to communities in Ntaja, Lutenje, Namwela, Monkey Bay and Chiponde.
The maize flour donation came at a time when people in the two districts are struggling with hunger after a poor harvest recorded last year.
Communities in the two districts had their harvest reduced last year due to flush floods which swept many fields of maize.
In addition to the flush floods, the harvest was affected by a dry spell which followed.
Speaking at Chiponde in Mangochi, Farook Sattar, who is Bilal Trust Coordinator, said his organization is touched by the suffering of the people.
“We are very touched by the suffering that the people in the two districts are experiencing.
“We therefore would like to join hands with government in alleviating the hunger,” said Sattar.
According to Sattar, Bilal Trust intends to reach out to as many people as possible with the maize distribution, in a number of districts in Malawi.
