Malawi govt employs cyber security officer

Government has employed a cyber security officer who will now be in-charge of integrated financial management system (Ifmis) blamed for the K84 billion plunder of public money at Capital Hill in Lilongwe. [caption id="attachment_103927" align="alignright" width="600"] Msowoya: Financial reforms[/caption] [caption id="attachment_103926" align="alignright" width="600"] IFMIS security manager employed[/caption] Nations Msowoya, spokesperson for the ministry of finance was upbeat that the hiring of  the cyber security officer would enhance the security of Ifmis. The government has since bought a K2 billion software to upgrade the Ifmis in a bid to enhance its security. In addition, Msowoya said, the government has bought new hardwares for Ifmis and installed new servers at accountant general's offices in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu and has since put remaining government departments and ministries to the Ifmis system in a bid to control massive looting of money. A few weeks ago, minister of Local Government Kondwani Nankhumwa said in Blantyre all city and district councils will now be connected to the Ifmis system to prevent abuse of government money. Police in Mangochi arrested four ward councillors in Mangochi on allegation that they stole council money in excess of millions.
