Mulhako wa Alhomwe has commended President Peter Mutharika for again elevating a Thyolo chief Ngolongoliwa from Traditional Authority (T/A) to Senior Traditional Authority.

The heritage, has however, rejected accusations that his elevation ceremony--slated for this Saturday, February 20 2016--has been fast-tracked.
The elevation ceremony will take place at Thyolo Community Ground in Thyolo and will be presided over by President Mutharika.
Mutharika first elevated Senior Chief Ngolongokiwa from Sub Traditional Authority (STA) to Traditional Authority in October 2014.
Ngolongoliwa, born Laelo Juma in 1950, becomes the first Senior Traditional Authority from Lhomwe belt, according to Dickson Makhumba, Publicity Chairperson of Ngolongoliwa Chieftaincy elevation ceremony.
Makhumba said Mulhako wa Alhomwe grouping is largely pleased with Mutharika’s decision to elevate Ngolongoliwa from Traditional Authority (TA) to Senior Chief.
"Since the death of Paramount Chief Mkumba of Phalombe a few years ago, we did not have any senior chief as opposed to other tribes in the country.
"Those claiming that the elevation process hqs been fast tracked are in the wrong and should know that the mandate to elevate chiefs lies in the hands of the Head of State in conjunction with the Ministry of Local Government. Mulhako wa Alhomwe is just at the receiving end and we are pleased with President Mutharika's decision to elevate our Mwene wa Amwene to Senior TA, " said Makhumba during a news briefing in Blantyre Monday.
He said preparations are at an advanced stage and all arrangements are going on well and that trradional dances that include the famous Soopa (Tchopa) will be danced by the Lhomwe Chiefs.
Makhumba also said these celebrations will start on February 19 2016 at the Ngolongoliwa Head Quarters in Thyolo where they will also foods, sweet beer as well as tradional beer.
"Let me put it on record that so many guests has been invited including all chiefs in Malawi to celebrate together with their fellow Senior Chief Ngolongoliwa on this special day.
"I would like to urge all Malawians to come in their large numbers to celebrate with us on 20th February 2016 at Thyolo Community Ground in Thyolo and transport has been arranged to pick up all Lhomwes across the country," he said.
The Lhomwe people originated from Mozambique and settled in the southern part of Malawi. Others settled in Zomba but most of them settled at the foot of the Mulanje Mountain. The group came in 12 various groups some of which are the Amilauani, Amanyala, Amatha, Alikhukhu, Amalivothi and the famous Agulu.
