In a bid to make agricultural information accessible to farmers in indigenous languages, Access Agriculture has trained media personnel’s in the country on how they can translate Audio -visual agricultural programs into different languages.

Some of the media houses that participated during the workshop include Channel for all nations,Nyasa Times, Chanco community Radio, Yoneco Fm, MIJ Fm, Voice of Livingstonia Radio and Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation.
Speaking during a three day workshop at Boadzulu Lakeshore Resort in Mangochi, Access Agriculture Vice Chairperson, Phil Malone said farmers can benefit a lot if they are learning in their own local languages and that it makes more sense.
“Through local language videos ,farmers share experiences on innovation that are veritably affordable, replicable, adaptable and scalable.”
One of the participant, Sakina Majawa from Chanco community radio said she was very privileged to be part of the team, saying she is now aware on how to translate video clips into local languages, something which will have great impact to farmers.
“As the producer am now able to translate on how this will help farmers to understand agriculture activities in their local languages like Yao, Sena, Tumbuka and Chewa. This will also help local farmers to borrow a leaf from what other farmers in different countries are doing in as far as agriculture is concerned and this will transform their lives.”
Access Agriculture is an international Nongovernmental organization that fosters south-south exchange on an access to quality audio-visual training materials to secure sustainable livelihoods of smallholder farmers and use of natural resources.
The organization is registered in Kenya as a public Benefit Organization, with an African focus in countries like Egypt, Benin, Malawi, Mali and Uganda.
